School Garden
Welcome to the Rainbow Garden
The Rainbow Garden is a living part of our school community. Designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, and connection, the garden gives students the chance to grow real food, explore science in action, and build lifelong habits around health and sustainability.
What Students Experience in the Garden
Every grade level at Schwarzkopf has the opportunity to learn in the garden. Through structured classroom lessons, group investigations, and hands-on activities, students:
-
Plant, observe, and harvest edible crops
-
Participate in cooking and tasting demonstrations
-
Investigate plant life cycles, pollinators, weather, and soil health
-
Contribute to “Garden Time” segments on our morning show
-
Use the garden as a setting for writing, STEM, and social-emotional learning
Whether it’s calculating the cost of a school-grown salad or charting plant growth during science class, the garden makes learning feel real.
How the Garden Fits into Our School
The Rainbow Garden sits along the main walkway to the cafeteria, an ideal space for visibility and accessibility. This location allows for spontaneous observation, structured lessons, and schoolwide integration. Teachers use the garden for:
-
STEM and data-collection activities
-
Vocabulary and descriptive writing lessons
-
Community-building and reflection time
- Seasonal story-book walk
Our goal is to ensure that the garden becomes a routine part of the student experience — not a special occasion.
How You Can Help
Volunteers and community partners make this garden possible. Whether you’re available to pull weeds on a workday, lead a cooking demonstration, donate supplies, or sponsor a garden feature your support matters.
